Form and function of radular teeth of herbivorous molluscs: Focus on the future
نویسنده
چکیده
The radular apparatus of herbivorous molluscs provides an excellent model for study of form, function, and integration of morphology and function. To date, however, few studies have been conducted in a way that allows us to understand the ecological and evolutionary consequences of different morphologies, and how morphologies differ or are similar in both form and function. I suggest thee areas of focus for future research: (1) Explicit quantification of morphology. (2) Real rather than asserted assessments of function. (3) An integration of structure and function. Taking advantage of new technologies and integrating them with more traditional approaches, experimentation, and quantification of both form and function will prove this to be a rich area for research in the future.

Radula synthesis by three species of iron mineralizing molluscs: production rate and elemental demand
A cold-shock technique was used to determine radula production rates for the chitons Acanthopleura hirtosa and Plaxiphora albida, and for the limpet Patelloida alticostata, which replaced their radular teeth at rates of 0.40, 0.36 and 0.51 rows d, respectively. These rates are far slower than those determined previously for non-iron-mineralizing molluscs, suggesting that the improvedworking lif...

BACKGROUND Slugs have been known worldwide as important pests of agricultural and horticultural production. They also play a role as intermediate or definitive hosts of helminths parasite. In this purpose, current study was carried out to examine slug radular teeth structure and slug infection with helminths larvae in north of Iran. METHODS A total number of 114 slugs were collected from cent...

Avulsed teeth that are replanted dried are more prone to loss. Recent tissue engineering studies focus onfabrication of various cell delivery systems to improve the overall prognosis of such teeth. To evaluate this newcell transplant method, we initially aimed at designing of PRF scaffold and determining BMMSCs viabilityand function on the fabricated scaffold. To test this concept in-vitro, hum...
